From what I can gather, Arrow published an anniversary edition overseas. The 40th anniversary of the release of the Godfather came in 2009. Finally, the serifs on the “T” crossbar don’t come down as far, and the curving underneath the crossbar seems to be shallower. Also, the curves on the shoulders of the “a”-up at the level of the crossbars of the “f” and “t”-are tighter than on the Original or Coppola version, looking more like the Third Movie version. Note the odd kerning in the Trivia version between the “h” and “e” in “The”, the oddly-stubby bottom of the “t” (which apparently doesn’t get the same swishy foot that the “f” and “h” get”, and the inconsistent thicknesses of the stems of some of the letters (like the “d” and “h”). This used yet another version: 1 Trivia version On the other hand, The Godfather: Part III wasn’t released with this logotype! It’s a bit of revisionist history-or perhaps it’s correcting a mistake that was committed in the wild days of the early ’90s.Īlso released in 2008 was The Godfather Trivia Game. However, the Third Movie had two different versions associated with it (the Third Movie version and the Angular version)! Part of me prefers the uniformity and the return to Fujita’s original design. It’s close enough to the First Movie and Original versions to functionally be the same. The Coppola version has been imposed on all discs (with a shrunken “The” for some reason). (Thank goodness for jbroomhead1964.) Look throughout the collection. In the Original version, the finial of the “a” almost cuts the space in two.) (Compare at the empty space between the “f” and “a”. But while the sharpness of the “e” finial from the Original version is maintained in the Coppola version, that of the “a” is filed down. Furthermore, the top of the “r” is curved ever so slightly in the First Movie version-in both the Original and Coppola versions, it is straight. However, the strings meet the letters as they do in the Original version, and the shape of the knuckles in the Coppola version are more like the Original version. The feet of the “h”‘s are not squared off, as in the Original version, but are rounded, like the First Movie version. The Coppola restoration uses what I’m calling the Coppola version, which is basically a melding of the already-similar Original and First Movie versions. ![]() ![]() Take a look at this: Coppola version Original version First Movie version This release was five DVDs or four Blu-Ray discs in sleeves looking like this: In 2008, however, the movies were digitally restored and released as The Godfather: The Coppola Restoration. (Maybe it has something to do with the foil application process?) The Complete Screenplay uses the Original version (as does its 2009 paperback edition). ![]() Classic Quotes uses the Angular version, just really bold.
